In the bustling heart of Helsinki, a deep tech venture is quietly transforming how we think about waste and energy. Meet Benerg, the startup that’s turning last night’s leftovers into tomorrow’s power source.
Burak Gedik, Benerg’s CEO and Co-Founder, doesn’t mince words when describing their mission. “Our technology is the building scale biogas machine that produces energy from food waste with remarkable efficiency,” he states, his eyes gleaming with the fervor of a true innovator.
But what does this mean for the average Joe? Simply put, Benerg’s plug-in machine is a waste-disposing, energy-producing powerhouse that fits right into commercial buildings. No more waiting for the garbage truck; this bad boy turns leftovers into luxury on the spot.
A Vision as Clear as Their Energy
Benerg’s ambitions? They’re not small. “Benerg envisions being one of the EU’s biggest renewable energy companies and an important player in the decentralized energy market,” Burak declares. It’s a bold statement, but they’ve got the tech to back it up.
Their focus on food waste isn’t just about keeping dumpsters empty. It’s a strategic attack on a global emissions giant. “Food waste produces the same amount of emissions as India itself, 3rd biggest,” Burak explains. By tackling this issue head-on, Benerg is taking a significant swing at climate change.
More Than Just Hot Air
Benerg’s technology isn’t just impressive – it’s downright revolutionary. Their machines can increase biogas production in smaller-scale units, a feat that’s as sustainable as it is safe. “By using our technology,” Burak explains, “buildings can produce their energy on-premises, decrease their carbon footprint, and reduce their waste cost. By using only 10kg of food waste per day, Benerg produces more than 45,000 kWh of electricity, which is sufficient to meet the electricity consumption of 18 homes in the EU.”
But why focus on this particular solution? Burak’s answer is simple yet profound: “We can create a difference by turning every building into an energy generator in addition to decreasing carbon emissions.” It’s not just about powering buildings – it’s about empowering communities.
A Network of Support
Benerg didn’t rise to prominence in a vacuum. They’ve had help along the way, from the Helsinki Metropolitan Area Soft-Landing Services to the Startupbootcamp Renewable Energy Net-Zero Acceleration Program. These partnerships have been crucial in shaping Benerg’s journey and focus.
The Road Ahead
So, what’s next for Benerg? In the short term, they’re focusing on structuring their core operations in several European countries. But their long-term vision is where things get really exciting. “For the next 3 years, we want to show all the ecosystem stakeholders that we can literally decentralize the energy distribution,” Burak shares, his voice brimming with determination.
Join the Energy Revolution
Want to be part of Benerg’s journey? They’re open to collaborations in carbon credits, machine distribution across Europe, and idea-sharing. In case you know CEOs with commercial buildings, connect them with Burak. It’s a chance to be part of something big – potentially one of the next decacorns, as Burak ambitiously puts it.
